The glimpse of good

April 2020--In the midst of all this going on with the coronavirus pandemic, I'm seeing glimpses of people with big hearts. They're there, folks, and you don't have to look far to see them. Forget about the finger-pointing, the hoarders, the nastiness. I am. Instead, I'm focusing on the good news.

Grocery stores are setting hours for seniors only to give them a chance to get what they need. A national pharmacy is doing the same thing and allowing people to shop online and pick up in the drive-thru line--usually reserved for medications.

An area Chamber of Commerce started a Facebook account to let residents know what's on the menu at restaurants in town so they can order and pick up curbside. Win-win since it keeps businesses open, staff working, and bellies full. A woman in a nearby town started a Facebook sharing group. Have extra of something you will share with others? Post it. Need something? Post it.

Local organizations have started groups to pick up and deliver groceries and other items for people in need. There's a restaurant that had just received its order of 250 rolls of individually wrapped toilet paper and they were giving it away free to those who needed it.

And a shout out to the police officers, firefighters, paramedics, postal workers, retail workers in the grocery stores, the pharmacies, the gas stations, banks, etc. And the truck drivers who are showing up for their shifts to make sure shelves are getting stocked. And all the others deemed "essential employees" working to try to keep some form of normalcy in this challenging time.

Last, but in no way least, are our medical professionals. They are working around the clock tending to those with the coronavirus and those who have other medical needs--like heart attacks, car accidents, cancer, broken bones--and the list goes on.

Maybe you're not in a position to help others by delivering groceries or medicine, or anything else, no worries--there is another way you can help.

And it could be the most vital right now.

Heed the words I saw on a social media post. It's a group shot of doctors, nurses, aides, technicians, etc. holding a sign:

"We stay here for you. Please stay home for us."

Take it one day at a time.....
